Innovation
Our Mission in this field
We are dedicated to advocate for developing countries…
In order to leverage the potential of the hydrogen economy, developing countries need accessible and affordable innovation of hydrogen technology, systems, equipment, and infrastructure.
Although the production of green hydrogen and its downstream applications in industry and mobility hold significant potential, they are still in the nascent stages and suffer from a lack of cost competitiveness when compared to conventional fossil fuel-based technologies and processes. As hydrogen sourced from renewable energy is poised to play a pivotal role in lowering CO2 emissions, it is imperative to promote low-emissions innovation across the entire hydrogen value chain, from production to end-users. In this regard, it is essential to foster start-up enterprises and facilitate mechanisms that match patented technologies with venture capital. Such initiatives should be supported and promoted at the national, regional, and international levels.
Through the Programme, supported by its vast network of partners, including the (?) International Hydrogen Energy Centre in China, UNIDO seeks to foster and accelerate countries’ innovation capacities. The Programme endeavors to support pilot projects and demonstrations of technologies while addressing existing challenges in green hydrogen development, such as the efficient utilization of water resources.
UNIDO closely collaborates with industry, business, research and academia, news articles publication investment companies, to analyze innovation gaps and identify mechanisms that support the innovation development and transfer. The organization also collects best practices and know-how on innovations, develops thematic training materials, tools and solutions, and provides advice to developing countries on how to apply them.
